Foksal Street is one of the most prestigeous addresses in Warsaw. It has been associated with the world of aristocracy and artistic society since mid of the 18th century. At that time, it was an elite garden which was the venue for concerts, balls, and performances. In the 19th century, along the old garden alley, palaces that housed the greatest Polish families began to emerge. In the years 1895-1898, architect Artur Otton Spitzbarth designed and built two eclectic tenement houses at the numbers 13 and 15. In the 1930s, the owner of the tenement house at 13 Foksal St. was the “chocolate king” – Jan Wedel, who equipped it with modern technology solutions, such as a panoramic elevator.
The tenement houses Foksal 13/15 are one of the few historic buildings from the Belle époque period in Warsaw that have been spared the war damages and retained their authentic interiors to this day. The present owner of the buildings, developer Ghelamco, chose to restore and reconstruct everything that stands for their unique value. Inside the tenement houses, lavish stairwells with carved portals, white marble floors, hand-wrought balustrades, and neo-baroque polychromies have been preserved. To this day, the abundance of architectural details is simply astonishing: from nearly one hundred kinds of moldings adorning the walls and ceilings to patterned floorings with almost twenty motifs.
The project will comprise 55 luxury apartments that will range in size from 47 sqm to 260 sqm. The developer invited Eric Kuster, a reputable Dutch designer related to the Metropolitan Luxury brand, to prepare interior arrangements. The renovation project was entrusted to Anna Rostkowska from the Proart studio, who is a renowned expert in historic architecture. The residents will have at their disposal, for instance, a spa area with a sauna room and a hot tub, a fitness room, a spacious terrace with a cocktail area located on the top levels of the buildings and elegant guest rooms to host friends or business partners.
