The Beach (2000)

Starring young Leonardo DiCaprio, Danny Bole’s “The Beach” is a story about the search for paradise. The main character sets off seeking real adventure for which he is ready to risk his life. Using a mysterious map, he reaches an unknown island and finds a settlement inhabited by a hedonistic commune headed by Sal (Tilda Swinton). Soon, however, the island turns out to be far from a paradise dream.

It’s worth knowing that the beach where the movie was filmed is located on the island of Phi Phi Leh, Maya Bay, on the Andaman Sea. The Thai authorities have issued an order to close the island to the public because of the damaging effects of over-tourism.
